ABOUT EDEN CAMP

About Eden Camp
Eden Camp Modern History Museum is a family-owned and run attraction with a fascinating history dating back to 1942, when the site was built as a prisoner of war camp on the outskirts of Malton, North Yorkshire.
Originally home to Italian prisoners captured in North Africa, the camp later housed German POWs following the Allied invasion of Normandy. At its peak, Eden Camp consisted of 45 huts and accommodated around 1,200 prisoners.
In 1985, local businessman Stan Johnson discovered that many of the original huts remained intact and purchased the site, transforming it into a unique Modern History Museum.
Today, these original huts house immersive displays exploring the social and military history of wartime Britain. With authentic sounds, smells, moving figures and fascinating artefacts, Eden Camp brings the sights, stories and experiences of the 1940s to life.
