About the Eden Camp Experience

Eden Camp Modern History Museum is a WW2 museum in Malton, North Yorkshire, set in the grounds of an original prisoner of war camp. Built in 1942 on farmland outside Malton, the camp (known as POW Camp 83) first housed Italian captives and later German prisoners, with space for up to 1,200 people.

Today you can explore 21 original exhibition huts, each telling a different part of the story of Britain at war. Every hut is original, apart from replacement roofs, and we always say so when something is not. Together they bring the sights, sounds and stories of wartime Britain to life, from the home front to the war front and the story of the camp itself.

ABBOT SPG In Heritage Hall

What to expect

  • Explore 21 Original WW2 Huts, From the Blackout to the Great Escape: Every hut is an original 1942 building, and each one is brought to life with authentic exhibits, atmospheric sights and sound effects, so you feel the war rather than just read about it.

  • Step Into the Blitz and Walk Through a First World War Trench: You don’t just look at wartime Britain at Eden Camp, you walk into it.

  • Real stories, real people: Learn about the women who kept the country running in Hut 8, the Bevin Boys conscripted by ballot and sent down the pits.

  • Armoured vehicles: Come face to face with the machines of war. Step into the Heritage Hall and stand beside our armoured vehicles, close enough to see the scale, the steel and the detail up close.

  • Refuel, Then Take a Piece of the Camp Home: Stop for food and drink, then browse the gift shop.
