Do you have changing facilities?

We have disabled toilets available which have been made larger to allow for assistance however unfortunately due to the nature of our buildings, we do not have any dedicated areas for changing.

We provide wheelchairs for public use (please book before visiting, call 01653 697777. The Museum is fully accessible to all visitors.

Guests with accessible needs are entitled to a free carer ticket for one personal assistant/carer who accompanies any disabled guest. All visiting guests except for the carer require a purchased ticket.

Please Note, you must be purchasing at least 1 full priced ticket in order to be able to add a carer ticket in your basket. You can reserve a free carer ticket during our booking journey when purchasing your standard or combination entry tickets.

On the day of your visit, you must produce any one of the below documentation to show proof of Carer Status Carer’s ID, proof of Carer’s

  • Entitlement to Disability Living Allowance for children under 16 or DLA/Personal Independent Payments (PIP) for those aged 16-64, either in the form of a letter stating that the benefit has been awarded, or the actual Allowance book.

  • Attendance Allowance or Carer’s Allowance letter of award

  • Incapacity Benefit books, or a letter notifying the recipient that the benefit has been awarded Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Disability Students’ Allowance (DSA), or DID card (UK Disabled ID card).

  • In the case of visual impairment, a registration card known as the BD8 or a Certificate of Visual Impairment (CVI)

  • Credibility’s Access Card with the carer/companion symbol

  • An International Equivalent of the Above

Yes. We have 8 designated disabled parking bays located in the main car park, close to the gift shop. When you drive in, follow the car park round to the right and make another left. On quieter days and when no events are taking place, visitors requiring extra space are welcome to park across two adjacent bays.

Yes. If you need to be dropped off directly at the entrance and make your way to reception to sign in or pay

Yes. One free carer or personal assistant ticket is available for any disabled visitor accompanied by a carer. You can add this during the online booking process, or arrange it at the ticket gate on arrival. At least one full-price ticket must be purchased. Please bring proof of carer status with you on the day.

Yes. The site is flat throughout and the main routes between huts are all on paved surfaces. Most huts are accessible at ground level with no steps. Wheelchairs are also available to borrow free of charge on arrival.

The site is flat with no significant steps or gradients. There are some gravel areas around the moat near certain huts which may be harder to navigate by wheelchair or pushchair. Where possible, stick to the paved path which runs around the perimeter of the site.

Yes. The site is flat and paved throughout the main routes, making it suitable for pushchairs and prams. Some gravel areas around the moat may be harder to navigate, but these can be avoided by keeping to the perimeter path.

Yes. Benches are available at regular intervals throughout the site. Covered seating is also available inside the Mess Huts, which is located by the entrance of site.

Yes. The site is laid out as a loop and there is no requirement to visit every hut. You are welcome to skip any hut and continue along the route at your own pace.

Yes. Staff are happy to advise on the most accessible route around the site on the day. Please ask any member of staff on arrival and they will be glad to help.

Wheelchairs can be collected from reception on arrival, subject to availability. If you would like to guarantee a wheelchair ahead of your visit, please contact us in advance on 01653 697777.

Most huts are accessible at ground level with no steps. Hut 3 has internal doors which may be narrow in places. If you are unsure whether a particular hut will be suitable for your needs, please ask a member of staff before entering.

Yes. The huts are laid out as a suggested route but you are welcome to visit them in any order and skip any that are not suitable for you.

Hut 5 contains loud audio, sudden sound effects, smoke effects, and flashing lights. Visitors who are sensitive to any of these are advised to skip this hut. Signage is displayed outside to help you decide before entering.

Hut 3 - being the U-boat interior and having distressing imagery of divers and life on there was
hut 19 - houses a small exhibit for the holocaust 

We recommend you visit in the late afternoon sometime after 1pm. This is the usually the time when school children have left site and its more quite on the weekdays

Yes. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the site. Water bowls are available on site — please ask a member of staff on arrival. Please be aware that all dogs including assistance dogs are asked to remain in the outer areas of the café where food is not prepared or served.
