Eden Camp, the modern history museum in North Yorkshire, is offering a free return visit this summer to those purchasing advance tickets online between the 1 July and 31 August.* Offering great value, this limited time offer allows families to experience a summer of creativity, resilience, and hands-on history as it launches a line-up of wartime-themed summer holiday activities. From 19th July to 31st August 2025, each themed fortnight will spotlight the spirit of Britain’s Home Front during WWII, blending interactive workshops, living history, and engaging trails for all ages. The themed weeks include:

Rations Reimagined: Life on Limited Supplies – 19th July – 3rd August

The museum’s summer campaign kicks off with a deep dive into how everyday people adapted to rationing. From carrot lollipops to parachute lingerie, visitors will explore the inventive ways people coped with wartime shortages. Families can take part in a Carrots on a Stick Workshop, where children create their own colourful, crunchy carrot snacks using syrup, sprinkles, and imagination. The Carrots on a Stick Workshop runs 23rd-27th & 30th July and 3rd August from 1-2pm.

Dig for Victory – 4th – 17th August

Next is a celebration of Britain’s wartime gardening revolution. During this fortnight, guests can meet a costumed Land Army Girl dressed in her iconic overalls, discover how rooftops, lawns, and parks became vital food sources, and have the chance to grow something of their own. The Potting Shed Workshop will also run on 6th-10th and 13th-17th August from 1-2pm, a perfect mix of history and horticulture.

Make Do and Mend – 18th – 31st August

Eden Camp will then shine a light on wartime creativity and sustainability. Visitors can discover how wartime Britain embraced creativity and resilience. Learn how to sew, repair, and repurpose everyday items in the drop-in craft stations and DIY workshops. The hands-on Sew Your Own Name workshop on 20th-24th and 28th-29th August from 1-2pm, will allow people to create a personalised name tag using needle, thread, and fabric scraps—just like wartime families would have done.

Running across the entire summer is the Heroes of the Home Front Trail, a museum-wide scavenger hunt encouraging explorers to uncover six hidden characters and solve a secret word puzzle for a reward. Families can also enjoy a tasty snack from WinStan’s Bunker Café and take home a souvenir of their day from the shop.

Paula Peace, Director at Eden Camp, said, “Eden Camp is all about making history accessible and interactive. This summer, we’re inviting visitors not just to learn about wartime Britain, but to live it, through crafting, planting, and exploring. This summer is a celebration of resilience and resourcefulness, and good old family fun.”
