Eden Camp, modern history museum in North Yorkshire, has announced the return of a rare and invaluable artefact: the Jimmy James Table of Measurements. This handwritten document, created by Flight Lieutenant Bertram “Jimmy” James, one of the most notable figures of the Great Escape from Stalag Luft III, records the meticulous dimensions of the escape tunnels famously codenamed “Tom,” “Dick,” and “Harry.”

Recently featured in The National Archives’ exhibition “The Great Escapes: Remarkable Second World War Captives,” this artefact is now back in its rightful home at Eden Camp, where it continues to inspire visitors. Alongside the return of the artefact, Eden Camp also received a letter from The National Archives thanking them for their participation in the display.

Summer O’Brien, Collection & Engagement Manager at Eden Camp states, “The museum is deeply honoured to have been a part of The National Archives exhibition. This incredible opportunity has allowed us to share Jimmy James’ unique artefact and story with a wider audience. Being featured alongside such a significant collection is a testament to our ongoing commitment to keeping the past alive for future generations. We are proud to have contributed to this meaningful exhibition and to have worked with such esteemed partners.”
