It’s been an amazing month at Eden Camp with residents weekends, half term, a new military vehicle and living history.
We kicked off with our YO Residents event over 2 weekends and what a success it was! We had over 20,000 visitors through the gates over the 4 days. To all those we had to send away as our car parks were full, we look forward to seeing you at the museum soon.
After Most Haunted appeared on your screens at the start of the year, they’ve organised several ‘live’ events at Eden Camp over 2019, the first of which was held last month. Around 40 brave souls searched the camp for paranormal activity after hours. Check the Most Haunted website for more information if you’re interested in attending.
The latest addition to our collection of military vehicles arrived and has taken pride of place in our recently built garage. Our Daimler Fox prototype is number 9 of only 15 ever produced, 1 of 4 still in existence and of those 4, it’s the only one running and road registered! We’re so excited to have ‘Lily’ here at the museum.
We did say a sad goodbye however to our GMC CCKW 2½-ton truck, but the good news is that our ‘Deuce and a Half’, affectionately know as GI Jimmy, is heading off to be restored. It’s looking very likely that there might be more on the vehicle front coming very soon, so watch this space.
February Fun half term was then upon us and our visitors enjoyed dressing up and traditional wartime games, as well as a brand new quiz, the ‘Ration Run’. It was all rounded off nicely with a welcome visit from the Axis-Allied living history group. They were on site all weekend recreating WW2 Luftwaffe airfield scenarios along with the living history group, WARS.
Our next event is more living history with a visit from the Northern WW2 Association on Saturday 16th March 2019.
