History, romance, and vintage will take centre stage as this Valentine’s Day, Eden Camp, the modern history museum, and Pickering Town CIC are launching an unforgettable competition: the chance for a couple to win a fully themed 1940s wedding or vow renewal.
One lucky couple will be whisked back in time for a truly unique celebration on Saturday 10th October 2026, to coincide with the much-loved Back to the 1940s weekend.
The winning day will begin at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Pickering, where the couple will marry or renew their vows, before travelling by vintage vehicle through Pickering and onto Eden Camp. The celebrations will continue at Eden Camp’s iconic Heritage Hall, where the wedding party will gather, and the couple will be able to share their first dance surrounded by an authentic wartime atmosphere and spirit.
To enter, couples need to simply explain why they believe they should win this once-in-a-lifetime 1940s wedding experience. Entries must be made by the 27 March 2026.
Luke Hudman, Marketing Manager at Eden Camp, said: “Back to the 1940s weekend is one of the highlights of our year, and this competition takes it to a whole new level. Partnering with Pickering Town CIC allows us to celebrate not just history, but love, community and storytelling in a way that feels truly special and memorable.”
Carrie Brackstone, Operations Manager at Pickering Town CIC added, said: “Pickering has had such a strong connection to its heritage, and weddings at the church have been part of the town’s story for generations. It’s an incredibly special church as it houses a very rare set of medieval wall paintings that were originally painted around 1470. This partnership with Eden Camp gives one couple the chance to become part of that living history in the most romantic way possible.”
