Embark on a family-friendly adventure to Eden Camp Modern History Museum this Easter, where you and your family will journey back in time to explore the sights, sounds, and even the smells of what life was like on both the Home Front and Front Line during the Second World War.
Explore the 22 original POW huts and discover personal tributes and unique stories through immersive displays covering various aspects such as The Blitz, the Street at War (with rationing and fashions), the Home Guard, Evacuation, the Battle of Britain, and VE & VJ Day.
Family Friendly Educational Workshops
Join the fun with our free, family-friendly educational workshops happening throughout the Easter Holidays! Dive into exciting activities together and make learning a blast for everyone.
Evacuation Workshop – Wednesday 27 March, 1pm-2pm, FREE
Learn about the importance of evacuation, what would you take in your suitcase? Activities will include packing a suitcase, creating your name label and much, much more! Don’t forget you can find your own Evacuee Teddy in the gift shop to take home!
WW1 Cooking – Thursday 28 March & Thursday 4 April, 1pm-2pm, FREE
Join in the cooking fun and make your own tack biscuits!
Soldiers from WW1 relied on tack biscuits during trench warfare as they lasted a long time without going off but that didn’t mean they were nice to eat!

Living History Weekend – Saturday 29 – Sunday 31 March, 1pm-2pm, FREE
Explore history at Eden Camp’s Living History Weekends! Engage with reenactors portraying soldiers from the British, US, and German Armies, and connect with Home Front heroes. Don’t miss this immersive experience!

Rationing – Wednesday 3 April, 1pm-2pm, FREE
Learn about the effects of Rationing in Britain during the war! How did we survive on smaller portions and were we healthier as a result?
Learn about the types of food available in wartime Britain and which of your favourite foods today were in short supply!
POW Arts & Crafts – Friday 29 March & Friday 5 April, 1pm-2pm, FREE
Explore the everyday life of a POW at Eden Camp and how the prisoners of war (POWs) utilised materials around them to create arts & crafts in their spare time for presents to the local families.
Make your own Paper Dolly and use recycled materials to create an outfit for your very own wartime friend!
Willow Weaving Workshops – Tuesday 26 & Tuesday 2 April, various times, £6.50 per child
11am, 11.30am, 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm & 3.30pm
Discover the ancient art of willow crafting with Janice Burley from Down to Earth! In these hands-on workshops, children can create their own willow fish to take home. Each 20-30 minute session costs £6.50 per child, with a maximum of 5 children per workshop. Secure your spot by pre-booking here.

Our Living History Weekends are back with a BANG!
Experience the past like never before as our Living History Weekends make a triumphant return to Eden Camp! The unique atmosphere of the 1940s will be brought to life with reenactors, creating a vibrant atmosphere with displays, talks, and engaging activities.
Discover first-hand what life was like to be a soldier in the British and US Armies, as well as the intriguing perspective of German Prisoners of War. Engage in conversations with reenactors, explore authentic uniforms, and immerse yourself in the challenges faced by those who served during wartime.
Connect with the unsung heroes of the Home Front by chatting with members of civilian organizations such as ARP, Civil Defence, Home Guard, and the Red Cross. Learn about their selfless dedication during Britain’s ‘Hour of Need,’ and gain insights into the vital role civilians played in supporting the war effort.
Let the sounds of the 1940s transport you back in time as the museum comes to life with authentic music from the era – allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a 360-degree wartime experience.

All visitors to the museum are invited to join in with the fun and get dressed up in either civilian or military period clothing. All weapons (including but not limited to deactivated rifles, blank firing weapons, knives, bayonets) are NOT permitted on site. Costume must be respectful and SS/Gestapo uniform (or similar) is strictly prohibited. We respectfully request in light of current events for visitors/reenactors to avoid Russian attire/equipment of any kind. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
